Another edition of meet the maker Monday. And this ties to our Friday post about @handmadefriendshipbridge We met Blanca in February at a market event at Friendship Bridge’s office in Panajachel. We immediately fell in love with her spunky personality and were happy to discover her handmade corte bags and scrunchies. These humble women are stronger than we’ll ever know - come to find out at lunch on Friday, Blanca has 5 children (with the oldest now attending university). She’s been as successful FB client for ten loan cycles and now has employees of her own. She also traveled quite the distance to be with us that day, all the way from Xela, Guatemala’s second largest city, a long and rough bus ride to Pana. What an amazing opportunity Blanca has been able to profit from, working and growing a business with practical training and assistance all along the way. We had the pleasure of attending @friendshipbridge ‘s annual fundraising lunch (and rebrand launch!), saw some familiar faces and met some new friends. It’s encouraging to get together with other people who love Guatemala and have a model for alleviating poverty. While we don’t have the same mission, we are all passionate about rural Guatemalan women. There is no competition for resources when you’re each doing your thing in your own way.
