Huipil definition: Traditional Guatemalan blouse hand made on a backstrap loom. A huipil takes anywhere from 3 weeks to 3 months to complete. It is made in paneled sections that are then hand stitched together. Like many fashion items, once a huipil is worn for its desired time frame, the woman who made it will often sell her piece of woven art so that she can buy the materials to craft two more

Corte defintion: Traditional Guatemalan skirts crafted on a footloom in the jaspe (similar to ikat) technique. Just like huipils, once a woman no longer wants to wear her current corte, she will sell it to buy new materials to create her next ones.
