He comes from a family of rural sheep farmers and at a young age, he moved to Pana to start working with artisan goods. Over the years, he and his wife Ofelia have acquired impeccably curated collection of Mayan textiles that feature unique designs with unbeatable craftsmanship. They’re passionate about incorporating the authentic Mayan culture into their work and passing these artisan techniques down to their children. Zoila grew up the small town of San Andres, just up the mountainside from Panajachel and her husband is originally from a village 6 hours away called Todos Santos. They eventually met in Panajachel when Julian moved to the tourist town to open a traditional handicrafts store with his parents. Now, Zoila and Julian together continue to run the family business in Panajachel, bringing in the unique vibe of Julian’s hometown. The combination of years of professional experience and a trained eye make for an extremely curated shop. The couple have been married for over 20 years and have four beautiful children who also help out at the family store when they are done with their studies.
